Annual Meetings

The CIS Annual Meeting alternates each year with a meeting primarily centered on primary immune deficiency diseases (PIDD North American Conference) followed by a multi-disciplinary meeting, which includes primary immune deficiency diseases, but has a much broader immunologic scope. The goals of the Annual Meeting are to further CIS’s mission to facilitate education, translational research and novel therapeutic approaches in clinical immunology that in turn promote excellence in the care of patients with immunologic/inflammatory disorders. The substance of all CIS Annual Meetings is cutting edge clinical, translational, and basic science research.

At all CIS Annual Meetings, attendees learn about research approaches and techniques used by investigators in diverse biomedical fields. In addition, the PIDD North American Conference provides an exciting venue for the presentation of the newest information regarding immune deficiency diseases, including clinical and molecular phenotypes, diagnostics and therapies.

We recognize that many physicians (trainees and practitioners) need sessions on the pragmatic aspects of diagnosis and clinical care. Included in the CIS Annual Meetings will be sessions that are designed to provide a stimulating discussion of these issues, while delving into unsolved questions. Further, the CIS Annual Meetings provide a place to grow the community of physicians who feel competent to see patients with primary immune deficiency diseases, hypersensitivity, and inflammatory diseases. We believe that these meetings will consolidate and grow a community of physicians and scientists who work in this area.

Schools

CIS currently hosts schools in the topics of: Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases, Systemic Autoimmune Diseases, and Hypersensitivity/Allergic Diseases. The mission of CIS Schools is to train young investigators in an intensive course of study in an informal setting that encourages active participation.

The Schools are geared toward fellows in training and junior faculty, with a primary goal of education in the diagnosis, pathogenesis, and treatment of these complex diseases. The secondary goals of the Schools are to attract and develop future scientists in academic medicine and to enhance the awareness of clinical immunology and its importance in scientific discoveries and clinical applications. These programs encourage student interaction with faculty and thought leaders in immunology in a casual and intimate setting.
