The Clinical Immunology Society (CIS) and the International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer (iSBTc) held the first Damage Associated Molecular Pattern Molecules Satellite Symposia on June 7, 2007, in San Diego, California, prior to the FOCIS Annual Meeting.

Organizers of the meeting included Michael Lotze, MD; Albert Deisseroth, MD; and Anna Rubartelli, MD.

The target audience for this satellite was domestic and international rheumatologists, geriatricians, infectious disease clinicians, cardiologists with an interest in the inflammatory aspects of atherosclerosis, oncologists, and basic scientists interested in the clinical issues related to inflammation and the role of damage associated molecular pattern molecules [DAMPs].

The primary purpose of the satellite was to introduce the emergent understanding of the DAMPs in inflammation and clinical immunology. At the conclusion of the Satellite, participants were able to:

1. Identify the nature of DAMPs released from injured or cancerous cells;

2. Understand the critical role of leaderless cytokines such as IL-1, FGF, and HMGB1 in inflammation and the principles of REDOX associated with their elimination; and

3. Consider clinical strategies designed to limit or eradicate DAMPs.
