The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the second largest Institute of the world renowned National Institutes of Health (NIH), is searching for exceptionally talented, knowledgeable and motivated Medical Doctors (MD) or Doctors of Osteopathy (DO) interested in the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. NIAID is on the cutting edge of medical and scientific research/discovery in areas such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, illnesses from potential agents of bioterrorism, and many more.

NIAID currently has several Medical Officer positions available within three NIAID extramural divisions: The Division of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (DAIDS); the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Transplantation (DAIT); and the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID). The selected physicians will provide medical and scientific leadership, advice, and oversight of a broad, coordinated national and/or international extramural program that deals with biomedical research issues.

To qualify for these positions, candidates must be US Citizens with a MD or DO degree from a school in the US or Canada OR a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the US.

Salary: $84,641 - $127,442 (GS-602-13 or GS-602-14) plus a Physician’s Comparability Allowance (PCA) of up to $30,000 per annum may be paid based on selected physician’s assignment, qualifications, experience, and duration of a negotiated service agreement.

Salary is commensurate with experience and a full package of benefits is available including retirement, health and life insurance, long term care insurance, leave, and savings plan (401K equivalent).
