Recognize a Mentor 2025

Jordan Orange

As I advance toward the next phase of my career, I wish to acknowledge Professor Jordan Orange, whose confidence in my abilities, provision of opportunities, and exemplary guidance have been instrumental to my growth. His mentorship has significantly shaped my professional path, and I remain profoundly grateful for his support.

- Manar Abdalgani

Nicola Wright

I would love to recognize Nikki as my mentor throughout my early and mid-career. Her unwavering support, collegiality, collaboration, and friendship have been instrumental in my growth. I truly couldn’t have reached this stage in my academic journey without her, and I am forever grateful.

- Luis Murguía-Favela

Niraj Patel

I’d like to recognize Niraj for his guidance through fellowship and as I transition to an early career allergist/immunologist. He has helped mentor me in research, starting an immunology focused clinic and life. His friendship, support and our mutual interest bad jokes have all been crucial ingredients to my success in academic medicine. I feel lucky to have found a mentor like Niraj and hope that this just the beginning of a long lasting friendship.

Catherine Biggs

Dr. Catherine Biggs is an exceptional clinical immunologist, researcher, mentor, and friend. She has shaped countless careers through her kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to patient care. Her leadership and contributions greatly strengthen our field, exemplifying the highest standard of what it means to be a physician and mentor.

- Sarah Lohrenz

Lisa Forbes Satter

Dr. Lisa Forbes Satter has been an extraordinary mentor, guiding my growth in program development and leadership. Her vision, rigor, and generosity empowered me to further develop our comprehensive Allergy and Immunology program at MUSC, strengthening patient care, education, and research excellence.

- Kelli Williams

Rebecca Marsh

Dr. Rebecca Marsh has shared her boundless enthusiasm for clinical immunology and education with remarkable generosity. She has been a cherished mentor and collaborator. Her guidance has left a lasting imprint on my growth, purpose, and career as a clinical immunologist, and I am grateful for this.

John Sleasman

During my time at Duke, John’s leadership modeled the values I hope to bring to my career: kindness, curiosity, accountability, all with a sprinkling of irreverent humor. He was accepting of my bad humor, including dressing like him in clinic, encouraging of my interests in immunology and competitive running/swimming and was always there with an open door for any problems I had. As I start the transition into mentoring trainees myself, I hope to be the mentor to them that John was for me.

- Ben Stewart-Bates

Nicolai van Oers

I would like to recognize Dr. van Oers as a mentor whose constant support and encouragement have been instrumental in my scientific journey. He believed in me as I transitioned from chromatin biology to immunology and fostered an environment where I never had to choose between family and ambitious science.
